Last year was the first year we had single person entries and we had an incredible experience! We took 8 improvisers from around the country and put them together on a team. They put on an amazing show and became amazing friends. This year we are going to make Single Riders bigger and better and “friendsier” than ever.
Our Single Riders will be selected by our Festival Committee based on improv experience, love of improv, diversity, and location. Once selected we will group you together so you can get connected before you arrive. We will help you arrange housing with someone from our ensemble or with some sweet hotel discounts! You will arrive by Friday February 16th for a 2 hour workshop with one of our veteran ensemble teaching staff. Then you participate in planned activities, see shows, attend after parties and enjoy America’s Finest City, San Diego!
[su_quote cite=”Coonoor Behal” url=”http://mindhatchllc.com/”]I absolutely loved the Single Rider program last year. I had just moved to a new city and was still finding my improv teams. It was great not to have to sit out a great festival just because I didn’t have a festival team yet. We got a couple hours of rehearsal time with someone from Finest City to develop our format and our mash-up show was so much fun! Our mash up group was composed of people from all over the country. We loved our experience so much and the time we spent performing together that we are now applying to other festivals as a team! I wish every improv festival would offer the same opportunity for singles![/su_quote]

Red Door, the fast playing duo out of Los Angeles comprised of Justin Michael Terry and Ryan Marisco, have been named “Best of Fest” for the 2015 San Diego Improv Festival.
The award is chosen via social media. Teams that submitted to the festival from outside San Diego are eligible.
Red Door’s set was inspired by the suggestions, “Hedge Fund Manager,” “Welder,” and “Gnome Wrangler.”
“We are so honored to receive ‘Best of Fest’ in the midst of such immense talent,” said Red Door’s Justin Michael Terry. “The improv community in San Diego is phenomenal. So welcoming and warm, with an energy and laughter that was infectious, joyous and a pleasure to play to. We had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back next year.”
This is just the latest award for Red Door. Previously, they’ve won the Los Angeles Two For The Money Judges Pick competition and the 12th annual Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival Cage Match Tournament of Champions. They were also winners of the iO West Cage Match for 38 consecutive Weeks, finalists in the 3rd annual Los Angeles Dual Duel competition, and received a Del Close Award Nomination for Best New Show.
Outside of Red Door, Justin and Ryan are accomplished improvisers, teachers, and coaches. Justin Michael Terry has been improvising for the last 15 years and has studied at many of the major comedy institutions including the iO in Chicago, iO West, The Groundlings, UCBLA, Second City Hollywood, The Miles Stroth Workshop and ComedySportz.
